This Side Of Things - SMH Review

Brian Cadd is an unsung success story of Australian popular music. During the 1970s and ’80s his songs were recorded by the likes of Glen Campbell, Gene Pitney, Cilla Black, Wayne Newton, the Pointer Sisters, Bonnie Tyler, Ringo Starr, Joe Cocker and Jose Feliciano.

In this hugely enjoyable autobiography, Cadd captures the joys of growing up in Perth and Melbourne in the 1950s, affectionately recalls his first tentative steps as a piano player in school bands, explains how that early amateurism evolved into antics on the road with ’60s bands the Groop and Axiom and explains the accidental steps that saw his career move to film soundtrack writer, jingles composer, solo performer, musical arranger and songwriter.

This chronological account is broken as Cadd and friends recount anecdotes of life behind the scenes in London, LA, France and Australia.
